Recent Research in Geographically Weighted Modelling

We are recently completed a extensive programme of research at the National Centre for Geocomputation which places GWR in a wider framework of geographically weighted techniques. This work formed one of the projects being undertaken as part of the Science Foundation Ireland funded Strategic Research Cluster in Applied Geotechnologies (StratAG). The main output of the GWR modelling programme was GWmodel. The researchers, Martin Charlton, Paul Harris, Binbin Lu and Isabella Gollini, gratefully acknowledge funding for this work from Science Foundation Ireland (grant number 07/SRC/I1168).

The real GWR

The real GWR was the Great Western Railway, variously known as the Great Way Round or God’s Wonderful Railway depending on your point of view. Have a look at http://www.greatwesternrailway.org.uk  for further information. A brief illustrated history of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s vision can be found at http://mikes.railhistory.railfan.net/r010.html
